What came first, the dinosaur or the egg?

Judging from the latest results of our voting, it’s the egg. Vegreville’s distinctive Easter egg, or Ukrainian pysanka to be more accurate, ran away with the voting with more than 94% of people choosing it over Drumheller’s gigantic Tyrannosaurus Rex.

The next time your travels take you on a trip from Edmonton to Lloydminster,  be sure to get off the Yellowhead Highway for a side-trip to Vegreville so you can admire the egg which has been there since 1974.

It was originally erected to celebrate the RCMP’s centennial, but also is symbolic of the town’s ethnic Ukrainian heritage.

Ever visited Vegreville? Tell us in the comments what you thought of the egg the first time you saw it.
